Yes, this is a wedding and event planning site. We do aim to give you all things wedding. Shopping is a big part of the planning practice. So instead of gowns, tuxedos and jewelry, we want to show you another side of the planning and shopping process.

When its time to get gifts why not some fresh new kicks. Midtown Detroit’s retail store, Bobs Classic Kicks, www.bobsclassickicks.com  is the great place to find those rare edition, collectors item. Established eight years ago by Jason Johnson and just recently two years go Christian Dorsey became co-partner of the now staple gym shoe store of the city.

When asked why go into business in gym shoes? Dorsey responded, “I buy too  many damn shoes, might as well keep the party going”. So during the day the phone constantly rings with callers asking about the newest shoe out and the available shoe sizes.

The store provides many options of color pallets  and styles. The store uploads daily on the latest shoes being sold in the store and which classic tee looks best. To store is located at 4717 Woodward, Ave., Detroit, MI 48201 and can be reached at 313-832-7513.

When the financial collapse happened in 2007, this not only affected the house and banking industry, it affected everyone; this including the wedding industry. What was once a grand idea of a big fabulous wedding turned into being budget conscious and scaling back on one of the biggest decisions of ones life. Marriages statistics as a whole show an up and down scale.

Back in May, International Business Times stated this, According to Fox News; the percent of married households in the United States fell to 48.4 percent in 2010, down from 55.2 percent in 1990 and 78 percent in 1960. This is the lowest in recorded history for our country. In 1960, according to the LA Times, almost 50 percent of the 18-24 year olds and 82 percent of 25-34 year olds were married. Today, it is 9 percent of the 18-24 group and 44 percent of the 25-34 group.

According to cnsnews.com it stated, “The 48 percent of husband-and-wife households in 2010 was the first time since at least 1940 that this has fallen below 50 percent,” said Daphne Lofquist, Statistician for the Fertility and Family Statistics Branch for the Census Bureau.

With these statistics is shows that more and more people are not getting married. Well marriage according to male and female relationships. During the 2010 census some information had to be re-released regarding same-sex household, indicating the total number of same-sex unmarried partner households to be 0.6 percent — 646,464 out of the total 116,716,292 households. Furthermore Lofquist had this to say, “Identifying as a same-sex couple may be more acceptable now than it was in 2000, so that the group who identified themselves as same-sex couples might be a somewhat different group than it was in 2000,” she said.

The Huffington Post reported that University of Virginia researchers found when people get married and have children, several sectors of the economy experience growth. They include childcare, life and personal insurance, household products and services, health care, food, home maintenance and home services, pets and toys. A strong economy depends on a strong family unit because they not only provide the current customer base, but also provide the future workers in an economy. With marriage and fertility rates slowing, this trend of fewer marriages will have a negative long-term impact on the economy.

Katherine Delpra owner of Bride Appeal had this to say about her clients who are wedding planners, “their business is definitely up in 2013… None the less, they are seeing slightly smaller weddings, but a higher quality and volume of clients.”

With all the research age plays a big factor on when one decides to get married. Today, the average age of a first marriage is almost 27 for women and 29 for men, up from 20 and 22 in 1960. It also looks like 15 percent of the population today will remain unmarried compared with the historic norm in the U.S. of 10 percent, as its stated in the International Business Times article.

Kristopher Thomas, a married man of seven years had this to say about the changing winds of marriage; “A strong society starts with a strong family, the foundation of a strong family is a strong marriage”.

Marriage may have declined but as statistics show in order for the economy to grow people need to get married. One could think of it as a “Circle of Life” once nicely stated in the Well-Acclaimed Disney movie “Lion King”. In order to keep order, there needs to be constant flow of checks and balances.

After the ball drops in Time Square and we witness who the best football team is for the season a new genre of entertainment takes place. Oscar season now takes center stage for all to witness the super bowl of Hollywood. One of the biggest factors for this event is who will be the host? This year 2013 Academy Awards, will be hosted by Seth McFarlene creator of Family Guy.

When one watches the Oscars there are hopes that through out the broadcast the host will keep you entertained. They carry the show and keep you entertained.  For nearly a decade Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg would hold the spot all through out the 90’s and the beginning of the 00’s. As time went on the academy felt the need to evoke change.

The New York Daily News had this to say about McFarlene, “He kept the conversation lively. On the contrary they felt he talked too much about himself. The newspaper also noted, He dusted off a Mel Gibson racist rant joke and said the cast of “Chicago” was there because of concerns that “the show isn’t gay enough yet.

ABC news had this to say about the host,  “the 39-year-old host’s most controversial joke came when he described “Django Unchained” as the “story of a man fighting to get back his woman subjected to unthinkable violence” before adding, “or date night for Rihanna and Chris Brown,” which brought a gasp from the audience.”

Twittersphere had many comments to say about him:

When choosing a host I am lead to believe that the academy knows what the audience will need during this time. Here you have nine movies up for best picture and four of them are very deep and historical. You have Lincoln about our 16th president; Django Unchained; which is western with the backdrop of slavery ; Argo, about a group of people saving the lives of those in captivity; and then Zero Dark Thirty in which its about the finding and assassination of Osama Bin Laden.

So critics may have dismay for Seth McFarlane but his humor and his underlining jabs towards certain actors brought forth conversation that will continue on tomorrow and years to come. He made his mark on the stage and when it was over, He made his exit for the night.

When planning a wedding the first thing an engaged couple does is picking a date.  After the celebration is over of the engagement party, now is the time to make the final decision on where the wedding will take place.

The Knot has always been the resource to find all things weddings. Wedding Business Today republished information about the 20 most expensive cities.  This is the 4th annual survey of almost 19,000 former brides that discussed budgets and trends about weddings.

Hawaii, known for its landscape of beauty was ranked No.19 with an average wedding budget of $26,722. Southern Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and surrounding areas) being a city of warmth, palm trees and the blue ocean ranked No.10 with an average spent on a wedding is $33,810.

The information given from the statistics the majority of the cities are Eastern and Western cities. Chicago, IL is the only Midwest city ranked in the top ten at No.8; with an average budget of $35,197.

chart_1

Los Angeles may have Rodeo Drive, but it didn’t make the top five most expensive cities. Ranked at No.6 an average wedding cost $33,810. It shows that many superstars may live there, but when it comes to actually getting married in the city, it falls short of ranking in the fabulous five.

New York may be considered the concrete jungle, but it takes the not only the No 2. for the Outer Boroughs averaging $44,718. Taking the No.1 position is Manhattan, NY with the average wedding costing $70,730.

So as a couple decides on where to get married, they should always reference The Knot to check and see where can you get the best bang for your buck.

In today’s society there are many ways to gain access to a picture, quote, and or video. With technology at the forefront and the driving force behind gaining access, there are now new rules and ways to have permission to distribute the items. With the technology of social media on an all-time high the quick access if just a click away. For this a site called Creative Commons was created for a time such as this.

Creative commons not only has pieces of work from others that you can search and share, but this is a great site for those that are just starting out and would like to get a license for their own work to protect. It’s a very simple and self-explanatory. It’s also free.

We sat down and spoke with Kristopher Thomas, Founder and President of R.A. Communications an IT firm, based out Detroit, MI. He helps companies and individuals to fix errors but also, finding new tools and software to further the productivity of your work.

When asked about the copyrights and this new way of sharing ideas, he says, “I think ideas shouldn’t be something that you have to pay for”. He feels that with this type of search engine such as creative commons, it allows access to resources with out trading for money.

The copyright owner maintains the copyright and allows others to copy and distribute their original work as long as credit is given. The owner can choose to allow others to use the material freely or to select a license for specified uses and attribution to the copyright owner with HTML coding to embed on your site at: http://creativecommons.org/choose/.

Thomas feels this is the furthering of the human experience. He continues on to say that the person gets the notoriety of doing the work, so there is no loss there. When asked about the coalition between the IT aspects of this, he has this to say, you can sell support, you can learn how use it well for free or you purchase the professional support of it. But never having to actually buy the idea (i.e. software).

“Give me access, I give you press,” states Leslie Griffin, freelance writer of Detroit, MI.  Griffin has been writing for over seven years. Her focus has been in the entertainment industry. Today she was kind enough to share her process of getting public access to events. She states that at the beginning of her career it was difficult because she wasn’t known in the community, “I didn’t know what I was doing”.

On the site Electronic Frontier Foundation: Defending Your Rights In The Digital World they have a guide for bloggers on media access. They help answer some questions as simple as, “Does the First Amendment provide a right to gather news”? Their answer was Yes. Because the right to publish news necessarily depends on the ability to gather information, restrictions on your right to gather news raise First Amendment concerns.

Since she wasn’t known she made sure she got with someone who has done this before. Being able to have someone guide you and take you by the hand is the only way.  You have to know the ropes on what you’re doing, Griffin says.

Being able to have access and interview a such as the likes of singer Lala Hathaway, the daughter of famed deceased signer Donny Hathaway’s daughter took dedication and hard work on Griffin’s behalf. Stating that if she couldn’t get in touch with their PR person, she would tweet the celebrity. By doing this step, sometimes there may not be a response depending on their huge following.

Having access requires laws and procedures. Every state is different and in order to know the laws on how to have access or public records, you have to go through the right channels. The site Citizen Media Law Project is a great tool to have and utilize when trying to attain public records. For Griffin’s case, she begins a partnership with a venue. Her collaboration works more as a trade off. The venue wants publicity; she wants the opportunity to interview the talent. No matter what she has to produce a story. If she’s at the Fox Theater for free, she’s written a story.  It’s not a cakewalk; she interjects.

Griffin’s humbleness keeps her grounded. She stated that “one can’t become the celebrity; you interact with them, you interview them.” The evening we spoke, Griffin was on her way to Motor City Casino’s Sound Board stage to interview the comedian Eddie Griffin.

Leslie Griffin’s sample of work can be found in the Michigan Chronicle/Front Page at http://www.michronicleonline.com. If you would like to contact her she can be reach at igetitwrite@yahoo.com .

Everyone wants an exclusive image or multimedia piece of a spectacular event. When events are success, anyone involved wants proof they had some input with the event. Well, in order for someone to showcase this work, the client would need to sign off on a release form.

Photo Taken by Constance Thomas

According to Web Video Zone , a release is a contract that provides legal permission to use the image of the person who signed the form for commercial and non-commercial uses. For the vendor the most important thing for them is the release form. Once the client signs, the vendor now have permission to use any footage, may it be multimedia or still photos to help promote their personal business.

Weddings can be very demanding and very inclusive. Those attending are apart of special event.  With vendors, it is their responsibility to work with you and provide you with the things needed in order for your event to be a success.

With a wedding you don’t need individual release forms because those invited are included in the binding document, being that the couple is asking for their event to be covered, including those invited; there is no “reasonable expectation of privacy” in a public area.

Renee Aaron sat down and spoke with Crystal Marie of C-MY Style Evening Planning, LLC to get some background on how she handles her clients and how the process of the release form is handled. Crystal shared that she keeps “a couple of generic forms, that I cater to each client”. Being to have multiple templates she is able to adjust the document depending on what her and the client have agreed upon signing to the contract.

When asked about her document process, Crystal stated that she “sits with a client for a one hour consultation (free of charge) discussing their needs and services they are interested in”.  Once ideas have been identified, that is where a contract is sent over and shortly after other documents (release forms) will be sent. She states a release form is not present until the contract has been signed.

Weddings can be very demanding and very inclusive. With vendors, it is their responsibility to work with you and provide you with the things needed in order for your event to be a success. With binding documents this helps protects all parties involved. She shared with us that there hasn’t been an incident where a release form has not been included.

Crystal concluded our interview by sharing these last thoughts, “Everyone needs are different and make sure you are fully prepared.” We appreciate the time Crystal Marie took out to speak with Renee Aaron Events, and if you want more information about C-MY Style Events, click on the link about.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. This is the classic saying when a bride is going through the last steps of her wedding planning. Sometimes a bride may do the planning on her own and sometimes a bride may use the services of a company.Ooh So Fabulous Events, Co-Founder Tamesha Rouse and her partner are in the business of making couples special day memorable with their services. On a consistent basis Tamesha and her team work effortlessly to work with couples on the logistics of their day. Their team will help with day of coordination, linens, set design, and even workshops.

On a Saturday evening, I spoke with Tamesha to get some background information on the legal aspect on how her company handles any legal issues that may arise. I asked her about Defamation and has it ever affected her.

Defamation as stated is to harm the reputation of by libel or slander. Ooh So Fab Events, has been fortunate enough to not have to deal with any slander towards the company. But, a company did come to their site and take photos from their site and place it on their site as their own. They spoke with their lawyer and he told them “Facebook-anything that I posted on there no longer belongs to you. He also suggested the only way to protect ourselves from not happening again would be to watermark the photos.

I asked Tamesha about how when her and her partner started their company, how did they go about going laying the foundation about their legal matters. She stated, When Ooh So Fabulous was started we sat down with two lawyers and they drew up our contract by advising us to make sure that we are covered by any means necessary. We did know of a company that had to breech contracts once her business folded, she took money from these clients, but could not produce the product.”

The difficult part that occurs for Ooh So Fab unlike other vendors is that they “deal with clients on a monthly, weekly and sometimes daily, without a legal binding contract we will not be paid for our time”.  So it will be very crucial to cover all legal grounds before and during while meeting with a client.

If you like to find more information about Ooh So Fabulous Events, click on the link above to contact Tamesha Rouse and her team.
